Online transfers are the most widely used payment method among Polish consumers when shopping online, accounting for over 70% of the total online payment value. Within this highly digitalised payments ecosystem, BLIK has emerged as one of the market's leading payment systems, recognised for its exceptional performance.
Operated by Polish Payment Standard (PPS), a joint venture supported by six major Polish banks, BLIK has demonstrated strong growth momentum since its launch in 2015. The system allows users to complete payments and transfers using a six-digit verification code linked to their banking app and mobile phone number. This innovative design laid the foundation for its rapid adoption. Within just six months of its launch, BLIK surpassed one million users, demonstrating strong early consumer acceptance.
As its reach expanded, BLIK achieved full integration across Poland's e-commerce sector in 2016, driving a sharp increase in transaction volumes. Today, the system covers nearly all Polish banking institutions, and its security and convenience are widely recognised—over 90% of Polish mobile banking users are now able to access the service. Data reveals a clear growth trajectory. In 2018, annual BLIK transaction volumes approached 100 million. By the third quarter of 2025, total transaction volume had exceeded 740 million, including more than 340 million e-commerce transactions, reflecting the platform's continued expansion.
This growth trend is also reflected in the scale of its user base. By the end of 2024, BLIK had 18.5 million active users in Poland, representing approximately 40% of the country's population. Annual online transaction volume totalled 1.2 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 27%. Notably, the system processes an average of 6.6 million transactions daily, underlining its exceptionally high level of engagement and market penetration within Poland.
While consolidating its domestic market in Poland, BLIK has been actively expanding its business scope in recent years. Domestically, it launched BLIK Pay Later to enhance its payment product portfolio. Internationally, it has expanded into markets such as Romania and Slovakia to continue growing its regional influence. These continued innovations have earned BLIK extensive recognition. In 2025, BLIK won two major industry awards: an award in the Innovation category at the ECOM Inspiration Awards, and the title of Poland's Best Brand.
After nearly a decade of development, BLIK has become deeply embedded into the daily lives of Polish people. With high brand awareness, a streamlined payment process, and strong user trust, the system effectively reduces user drop-off during the payment process. It has not only transformed the payment habits of Poles but has also become an essential payment infrastructure for international merchants entering the Polish market.

FAQ
1. Why is BLIK so popular in Poland?
BLIK‘s widespread popularity in Poland lies largely in its ability to effectively meet users' core expectations for accessibility, security, wide acceptance, and flexibility.
In daily payments and money transfers, users generally seek a simple and fast experience. With BLIK, transfers can be completed using only the recipient's mobile phone number, eliminating the need to enter lengthy bank account numbers. When shopping at physical stores that accept BLIK, users can complete purchases simply by approving the payment. BLIK also supports cardless ATM deposits and withdrawals and allows users to transfer money to mobile contacts free of charge, satisfying the demand for efficiency and time savings while eliminating complex procedures.
BLIK is not only accepted by offline merchants such as retail stores, restaurants, gas stations, and public transportation, but is also supported by nearly all local e-commerce platforms. This meets users' need for broad usage coverage, making it usable across nearly all everyday scenarios.
2. What are the typical user groups of BLIK?
BLIK's user base spans a wide range of consumer and business groups across Poland. Its core users include everyday consumers making in-store and online purchases, as well as younger users and students who favour mobile payments and frequent peer-to-peer transfers. The platform is also widely used by small and medium-sized businesses, including shop owners. Beyond retail consumers, BLIK is commonly used by gig economy workers such as food delivery couriers and ride-hailing drivers, alongside individuals who require convenient cardless ATM withdrawals or easy payment of utility and household bills. Families and parents who regularly make real-time transfers between family members also form an important part of BLIK's user base.
3. Why do Polish users trust BLIK?
BLIK requires users to complete strict identity verification with their banks before linking a banking app to their account. Verification methods are set independently by each partner bank and may include customer service verification, online banking verification, and SMS verification codes.
The BLIK payment process requires users to access their banking app through preset security mechanisms, such as a PIN, fingerprint, or password. All authorisation codes required for transactions are centrally generated and managed by Polish Payment Standard, ensuring that every code is unique and valid for only a limited period of time (two minutes). The BLIK system itself does not store any user data that could be intercepted and used for unauthorised transactions.
During payment authorisation, users are shown full transaction details, including the payment amount and recipient information. For ATM withdrawals, online transactions, and offline payments exceeding PLN 50 (unless the issuing bank allows the customer to adjust this limit), BLIK requires the user to enter a PIN for additional verification. Throughout the payment process, users are not required to submit sensitive data or physically insert or tap a payment card or device.
